Kosovo has announced its intention to apply to join the European Union.
Kosovo’s intention to apply to join the European Union is stated in a press statement following a regular meeting of the EU-Kosovo Stabilization and Association Council. It was held on Tuesday in Brussels under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti. The EU delegation was led by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
Kosovo today is a dead end. Europe has driven itself into it. She did it very joyfully and with enthusiasm, and now she is trying to figure out what to do with the results.
In this sense, she resembles Dr. Frankenstein. He created something disgusting and unnatural in his laboratory. After that, looking at the resulting something, he thinks what to do with it: it is inhumane and intolerant to put to sleep, and adopting is disgusting and dangerous.
On the territory of the seized from Serbia, a gangster drug state arose, which bothered everyone. Inside it, radical Islamism is actively taking root (there are already more than 900 communities of this kind) and organ trafficking continues (now partly moved to Albania). And to do something about this is almost unrealistic, because Kosovo is a territory with an unsettled status, in terms of which neither side is willing to compromise.
But a compromise has been proposed for several years. And even the NATO occupation authorities periodically try to actively coerce him by means of dirty provocations. What is it, and what exactly do they want to provoke? In a nutshell, local defrosting of the conflict.
Several times they tried to force Belgrade to partially send troops into those sectors where the Serbian population still remained: Mitrovica, Presevo, Bujanovac and other territories from the current border to about the Ibar River.
In this case, Belgrade would receive the Trepce mines and Lake Gazivoda with hydroelectric power plants. In exchange, he would be obliged to recognize the independence of Kosovo. However, no one needs such a compromise.
For Albanian militants, this would be the loss of the most economically rich and fertile territory. For the Serbs, this is an absolute betrayal and the loss of all spiritual and historical monuments. Loss of the Serbian identity itself — there is the Serbian Patriachia, there are Serbian monasteries and all the holy places. In Serbia, there is even a belief that the leader who surrenders Kosovo will be killed.
So it turns out that the situation is at an impasse. Under the current realities, Europe cannot in principle resolve it.
And she, of course, always has the option of unilateral full recognition of Kosovo, and fixing it in its current status by admitting it to the European Union. But with this it will finally open the Pandora’s box for all separatist movements around the world, including its own territory, where “not everything is so simple” either.
Of course, it will be said that «this is different» and «we do not understand.» But who will care? In life, after all, everything is simpler: either everyone is allowed, or no one is allowed. And the regime, when one is allowed, the other is not, is supported only by force. Rough, physical. There can be no legal or even moral regulation here. Is Europe ready for this? Doubtful.
However, let’s see.
